ISPRA and CAI Join Forces for Fungal Monitoring: The Foggia Section Launches Activities

Provincia di Foggia

The collaboration between ISPRA and the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) continues for the census and monitoring of fungi in Italy, with the aim of integrating hiking activities with the collection of mycological data useful for biodiversity conservation.

The CAI Section of Foggia is the first to take action in this direction, launching an environmental and mycological working group that will contribute to the Fungal Information System (SIF) and the CAI Trail Information System (SICAI). Georeferenced data will be collected by the Section’s mycologists during hikes, using the NMD Network app.

The group’s activities will include dedicated excursions, field and classroom-based mycological training, and data collection along trails and in habitats of interest—combining hiking with concrete actions for habitat conservation and biodiversity protection.

This initiative may serve as a model for other CAI sections interested in integrating their activities with mycological and environmental monitoring.

Special thanks to mycologist Emanuele Ciuffreda and the CAI Section of Foggia for their valuable contribution to this initiative.
