Federparchi, ISPRA, Micocosmo and the Valle Camonica Mountain Community – Adamello Park working together to enhance Lombardy’s mountain biodiversity
The project “Montagne in transizione” (Mountains in Transition), selected and funded by Fondazione Cariplo, was launched in October 2025 and stems from the collaboration between Federparchi, ISPRA, Micocosmo and the Valle Camonica Mountain Community – Adamello Park.
The initiative is dedicated to enhancing Lombardy’s mountain biodiversity in a context of environmental and climate change, with a particular focus on fungal diversity, a key component of alpine ecosystems that is still underrepresented in outreach, communication and public engagement activities.
The website provides information on the project’s objectives, partners and planned activities, and serves as the main reference point for the public and stakeholders interested in the ongoing initiatives.
Activities scheduled between January and June have already been defined and organised. The official project launch is planned for 31 January, marking the public start of activities on the ground.
The programme includes:
- guided mycological excursions for citizens and enthusiasts;
- educational workshops for schools, families and students;
- citizen science activities, aimed at directly involving participants in data collection;
- outreach and dialogue events with the public and local stakeholders.
Within the project, the Ndm Network contributes by providing scientific expertise, shared methodologies and tools for data collection and management, strengthening the link between research, monitoring and the enhancement of natural heritage.
“Montagne in transizione” integrates scientific research, environmental education and active participation, with the aim of increasing awareness of the role of fungi in mountain ecosystems and of their value for conservation policies and the management of protected areas.
