ISPRA takes part in the seminar “The importance of protected areas for biodiversity conservation”
On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, the European Day of Parks and the European Geoparks Week 2026, the seminar “The importance of protected areas for biodiversity conservation” will take place on 22 May 2026 in Sant’Agata Militello (Italy), at the “L. Sciascia” Higher Education Institute.
The initiative aims to highlight the role of protected areas in safeguarding natural, geological and cultural heritage, emphasizing the contribution of parks, nature reserves, Natura 2000 sites and marine protected areas to biodiversity conservation.
The programme includes contributions from institutional representatives, universities and experts, as well as the presentation of the “NebrodiLens” application.
For ISPRA, Luigi Ricci, Director of the Department for Environmental Monitoring and Biodiversity Conservation, will deliver the concluding remarks of the seminar.
The event is part of a broader framework of initiatives aimed at raising awareness on nature conservation and the sustainable management of protected areas.
