The mycological biodiversity of the Nebrodi Park: collaboration, monitoring and shared knowledge
On 5 June 2026, the conference “The mycological biodiversity of the Nebrodi Park” took place at Palazzo Trabia in Santo Stefano di Camastra. The event focused on the role of fungi in forest ecosystems and on collaborative approaches involving institutions, mycologists and local stakeholders for the monitoring of fungal biodiversity.
The initiative brought together institutions, mycological associations, experts and researchers, with contributions dedicated to the knowledge, conservation and enhancement of the fungal biodiversity of the Nebrodi area.
During the meeting, activities developed within the Network for the Study of Mycological Diversity (Ndm) and the Fungi Information System (SIF) were presented. SIF is a national platform dedicated to the collection and management of georeferenced mycological survey data.

Particular attention was devoted to the importance of collaboration among institutions, protected areas, associations and the mycological community in order to strengthen data collection, environmental monitoring and knowledge of forest ecosystems.
The experience launched with the Nebrodi Park represents a model based on territorial collaboration, data standardization and knowledge sharing, in line with the growing national and European interest in integrating fungal biodiversity into environmental monitoring systems.
The meeting is part of the ongoing activities of the Ndm Network aimed at developing collaborative networks and shared tools for the knowledge and conservation of fungal biodiversity.
