IMPEL – Nature Protection Expert Team and JoNeF in Palermo (28–31 October 2025)
From 28 to 31 October 2025, the meeting of the Nature Protection Expert Team (NPET) of IMPEL – European Union Network for the Implementation and Enforcement of Environmental Law was held in Palermo.
The event brought together experts from European environmental agencies engaged in biodiversity conservation and the management of the Natura 2000 network.
During the meeting, participants presented and discussed the main projects coordinated by the Expert Team, with sessions dedicated to the implementation of European nature-conservation legislation, the fight against illegal wildlife trafficking, and monitoring and enforcement tools at both national and European levels.
Among the active projects, JoNeF – Joint Network for wild Fungi, coordinated by ISPRA, devoted its working session to the finalisation of the JoNeF Report 2025, which will be released in 2026.
The report will provide an updated overview of European information systems including macrofungi data, highlighting strengths, critical aspects, and opportunities for integration at the European level.
The meeting concluded with a site visit to the Ficuzza Nature Reserve.
The excursion offered an opportunity for practical exchange on the management of protected areas, biodiversity conservation, and the implementation of European nature policies.
