Fungi Information System (SIF)
The Fungi Information System (SIF) is the database of the Network for the Study of Mycological Diversity (NDM) coordinated by ISPRA.
It collects, organises, and makes accessible mycological data submitted by contributors belonging to the network, in a framework of participation and open data sharing.
A mycological survey refers to the activity of collecting field data aimed at determining the fungal species and, where applicable, collecting samples, together with environmental information (date, location, plant species, habitat, substrate, etc.).
A mycological datum is the set of information relating to a single survey, while a mycological record represents the organised and integrated set of these data, verified and processed according to shared standards.
During the verification phase, each submitted datum is checked based on:
-
- the updated species nomenclature, according to Index Fungorum;
- the habitat classification, according to the EUNIS system.
After the verification process, the data are published within the SIF, where they can be freely consulted through the interactive map viewer.
Data contents
Contributors are invited to submit surveys relating to all species of macrofungi.
The collected data always include information on:
-
- the fungal species observed or identified;
- the habitat and ecological conditions of the finding.
This integration allows the study of fungi as indicators of the quality of terrestrial ecosystems, supporting the knowledge and conservation of mycological diversity.
Map viewer
The map viewer allows users to explore on the map the surveys collected and archived in the Fungi Information System (SIF).
Each point represents a georeferenced mycological survey, classified according to the type and origin of the data.

It is possible to navigate the map and open the information associated with each record.
Below the map, an interactive table displays the main information for each survey, including species, date, contributor, risk category, habitat, and any occurrence in protected areas or Natura 2000 sites.
Requests for access to the complete datasets must be justified and submitted to NDM via email: ndm@isprambiente.it
