The Fungal Information System featured in RETICULA
An article entitled “The Fungal Information System: a national infrastructure for knowledge on fungal diversity” has been published in Issue 42/2026 of ISPRA’s technical-scientific journal RETICULA, by Emiliano Canali, Luca Campana, Stefano De Corso, Chiara D’Angeli, Dora Ceralli, Nicola Lugeri and Francesca Floccia.
The article presents the Fungal Information System (SIF), developed within ISPRA’s Network for the Study of Mycological Diversity, describing its structure, the process for acquiring and managing fungal records, and the workflow through which data collected in the field or obtained from existing archives are transformed into structured and usable records.
The SIF is a national infrastructure dedicated to collecting, organising and sharing information on fungal diversity. The data gathered can contribute both to research on species distribution and the relationships between fungal diversity and the environment, and to institutional biodiversity monitoring activities, supporting conservation and territorial planning.
The article is available on pages 31–41 of RETICULA, Issue 42/2026.
